Educational Entanglements: From Ivy League to Coding Bootcamps

Introduction

In this article, I will discuss the pedagogical underpinnings of coding bootcamps and share my own experience with attending a coding bootcamp and other education institutions. Referencing a great article by Launch School to outline the theory behind the pedagogy of bootcamps, I explain this pedagogy and how it differs from traditional higher education. My goal is to shed light on the real choices that underly degree, certificate and career training programs. When you are trying to decide to go to college or coding bootcamp, what are you really choosing? What implications do different forms of education entail? Ultimately, the education system is highly commercialized, so buyers should be aware of what they’re buying when it comes to education.

My educational experiences have been really wide ranging. I attended an Ivy League college straight out of high school at the age of 18 in New York City. I had my dreams crushed, closeted myself, made very few friends, and developed eating disorders and a major depression.
